Natural Resources

Yoncalla School District offers a hands-on Natural Resources Program that immerses students in forestry, environmental science, and land management skills, leveraging our rural location for real-world learning.
Program Highlights
High school students explore topics like soil testing, map reading, tree identification, and wildlife habitat through field trips, competitions, and lab work with specialized equipment funded by state grants. The program partners with Umpqua Community College for dual college credits and participates in Future Natural Resource Leaders (FNRL) events statewide.
Hands-On Opportunities
Participants gain practical experience via Career Development Events, such as forestry challenges involving chainsaw use, scaling logs, and environmental assessments. School garden integration adds farm-to-forest connections, building skills for careers in conservation or resource management.
Benefits for Students
This CTE pathway fosters leadership, teamwork, and outdoor expertise while offering college credits and pathways to community college programs. Graduates enter fields like forestry, firefighting, or environmental tech with a competitive edge.
